Many of my paintings feature the characters of the estuary, and this one features the estuary as well. The gangly spoonbill has so much personality, they've wangled their way into my body of work, being my most painted, and favourite wading bird.
These three girls are placed at low tide on the humble Waimea Estuary, not far from Mapua. The background depicts Rabbit Island.
This work is a sister painting to "The Estuary at High Tide", which is roughly the same place at a different time and tide.
The paintings work nicely on their own, or as a low-tide / high-tide duo.
Buy the duo, and choose a small print, compliments of the artist.
For this painting I used a palette knife and impasto technique to achieve a strong and textured finish.
